About Us

Matthew Adams

Co-Founder, Director

Deep Ecologist, Environmental Quality and Resource Manager B.Sc., Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society of England.

As a Deep Ecologist Matthew's work
aims to question the dominant Worldview of control over nature to awaken and encourage individual responsibility for creating health and wellbeing for all.
Author of ‘Beyond Organic, a Vision of the Future’, published in the Soil Association’s journal Mother Earth (Vol 5, 2011). Matthew contends that food quality can be defined by its nutrient content and qualities. If calibrated correctly, to the health of soil, water, air and biodiversity it would allow a food quality standard to be developed that promotes symbiosis. This would 'pull' quality through the supply chain, eliminate greenwashing and reward best practice. In return, this would increase beneficial soil and gut microbes that lead to regenerating the health of animals and humans.

Silke Gebauer

Project Officer

Soil Health Practitioner, Nature Facilitator

Silke joined Grffn after graduating from the Soil Food Web school where she gained hands-on experience in biological soil management for regeneration and various composting methods for food waste, and agricultural management.

On this journey, Silke has come to understand how conventional agriculture harms the whole entity of our natural world including humankind. She advocates for growing practices that respect and complement the intelligence and potentiality of our ecosystem resulting in highly nutritious and energetic food. It is clear to her that ecological and sustainable practices bring about health, happiness and harmony whilst connecting us profoundly to one another and the natural systems that sustain us.

Becky Spencer-Ellis

Education and Outreach Lead

Marine Biology with Biodiversity and Conservation BSc(hons), Marine Conservation MSc, Nature Mindfulness Leader

Becky’s academic work has focussed on both wildlife and ecological conservation in both terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Specifically, with creating community connections to urban wetlands and researching dwarf seagrass meadows with respect to their importance and management. She has also worked with museums, conservation organisations and schools with a view to engaging them in their surrounding natural environments and get them more involved and passionate about conservation. Most recently, Becky’s work has involved educating people on greenwashing, how to live a life closer to nature and nature-centred mindfulness.

Becky’s experience in environmental conservation, scientific educational outreach, and travelling to experience different lifestyles has created a passion in connecting people to nature; to realise they are an integral part of the ecosystem and to make nature accessible for everyone.

Jack Spencer-Ellis

Education and Outreach Lead

Mathematics BSc, Business Intelligence Analyst

Jack has always had a passion for helping people learn a story from data, so that they can be more involved without having to look at every number. His work is all about helping others; from automating repetitive tasks to building reliable systems and visual dashboards to engage, educate and inform its viewers.

Jack also has experience in turtle conservation and training volunteers to collect quality survey data. His travels around the UK and Europe in a self-built campervan, then narrowboat, has connected him to the world of intentional living. He is passionate about improving the accessibility of scientific knowledge needed to live a life that is more ecologically-informed, healthy and community-connected. He has always known that he wants to be a part of something that matters and got involved with GRFFN after hearing Matthew talk passionately about growing food for nutrition and how quality food, grown in connection with nature, should be accessible to everyone.
